The Astronomy Club of Virginia Tech was a newly-resurrected student organization in 2013 when Alec and Rebecca joined. Through the (somewhat eccentric) members, the club grew and began undertaking bigger events with Alec eventually taking the Treasurer position and Rebecca elected to Secretary. Together they ran the Anderson Observatory (formerly Prices Fork Observatory) as co-docents (though, technically, only Rebecca was officially listed). Every Friday night, at least, they were both out there showing students, faculty, and the general public the night sky through the massive C18 telescope housed there.
Eventually, Alec got the bright idea (with help from the internet) to hook up his camera to the telescope and try to take pictures. After seeing the results, they both became hooked.
Until their graduation from Virginia Tech in Dec 2015 and Spring 2017, both continued to take every opportunity to image through the scope while they still had access.
Now living in separate states, Alec and Rebecca still want to continue growing their collections, between photos of the night sky and of things right here on Earth. They both want to continue capturing these small moments in time so that they’re never forgotten.
